Lord George Robertson is a Senior Adviser to 5654 & Company.

Rt Hon Lord (George) Robertson of Port Ellen KT GCMG was tenth Secretary General of NATO from 1999-2003 and UK Secretary of State for Defence from 1997-1999. During his time at NATO, he announced the invoking of the self-defence guarantee, Article 5 – the first time in NATO’s history.

He was a member of the British House of Commons for 21 years, a member of the Shadow Cabinet from 1993-7 (Shadow Scottish Secretary), named Parliamentarian of the year in 1992 and appointed to the House of Lords in 1999. He was Chief Opposition Spokesman on Europe for 9 years.

He is now a Senior Counsellor with the Washington DC Consultancy, The Cohen Group, Vice Chairman of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Chairman of the FIA Foundation, Chairman of Western Ferries and a Senior Adviser with BP plc.

He is a Special Adviser to Chatham House, on the Boards of IISS, the Centre for European Reform, Trinity House and the British Forces Foundation. He serves on the International Advisory Board of the US Atlantic Council.

He has several high international honours as well as being one of the sixteen Knights of the Order of the Thistle and Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George. He is one of the few foreigners to have America’s highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

He has written extensively and had been published in among others the Financial Times, The Times, Washington Post and the Economist.
